The Church of the Life-Giving Trinity, located next to the Golden Gate, is the last religious building of the old provincial Vladimir.

Short story

Locals call it the "Red Church". At the place where the red-brick Trinity Church now stands, from the beginning of the 17th century there was a wooden Kazan church, which belonged to the settlement of coachmen (cabbies). After a fire in 1778, Yamskaya Sloboda was moved outside the city, and frequent development began here.

In 1912, a piece of land near Golden gate, at the intersection of Dvoryanskaya and Letneperezinskaya streets, was bought by the Old Believers' community, consisting mainly of merchants. The influence of the Old Believer merchants was so great that they were allowed to build a new church in the city center. The merchants timed the construction of the church to the national celebration dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the reign of the Romanov dynasty.

Shortly before the revolution, in 1913 - 1916, according to the project of the architect S.M. Zharov, a red brick temple was erected, purchased at the local Studzitsky factory. The life of the church turned out to be short-lived: in 1928 the services ceased, and the provincial archives bureau was located in the building. In the 1960s, the question of demolition arose, but thanks to the efforts of the public and the active participation of the writer V.A.Soloukhin, the temple was preserved.

Trinity Church - an example of the Russian-Byzantine style

The Church of the Life-Giving Trinity in its architecture resembles an ancient Byzantine temple, decorated in the traditions of Russian architecture. It is built of red brick so-called cross masonry, and its two volumes - the church itself and the bell tower - have energetic, stepped shapes, crowned with helmet-shaped heads.

The red background of the façade and external walls contrasts with the white stone windows, portals and plinth. The temple is richly decorated with curbs and decorative belts. Earlier, the church was famous for its carved iconostasis made of black oak, with icons made according to old models of the 16th - 17th centuries. And the excellent acoustic properties of the temple to this day allow choral singing to be arranged in it.

Museum and salon in the Trinity Church

Since 1974, one of the exhibitions of the Vladimir-Suzdal Museum dedicated to crystal, lacquer miniature and embroidery has been opened in the Trinity Church... Valuable art exhibits of the museum clearly demonstrate the history of the development of arts and crafts in the Vladimir land. To the music of J.S.Bach, Antonio Vivaldi and other classics, visitors get acquainted with the works of glass craftsmen from the city of Gus-Khrustalny, lacquer paintings on epic subjects and marvelous embroidery by craftswomen from the village of Mstera.

In the evening, the Vladimir chamber choir "Chanting" performs in the Trinity Church. Since 1994, an art salon "Vladimirsky chic" has been operating in the basement of the Trinity Church, where they sell handicrafts of the Vladimir region.
