Not far from the city of Sergiev Posad there is a place popular with tourists and pilgrims - cold springs, which, according to legend, arose as a result of the fervent prayer of Sergius of Radonezh. Now it is landscaped here. Beautiful wooden churches and a chapel rise near the "Rattling Key", special baths, a small swimming pool, a gazebo for relaxation, stairs and bridges are built, and the Holy Gates of the future pilgrimage center are being completed.

Holy spring

Several dozen springs are formed in the limestone rocks that make up the Vondiga river valley, and flow directly from the middle of the steep slope. Water is poured onto the surface in a volume of 6 liters per second, and has a constant temperature throughout the year. Both in summer and in winter frost, it is equally cold + 6 ° C, very clean and tasty.

Natural springs form a whole cascade of a waterfall, 25 m high, which is commonly called the Gremyachy Klyuch. This name stuck, thanks to the constant noise emitted by the water jets flowing along the steep slope.

According to legend, this spring was formed more than six hundred years ago during the wanderings of Sergius of Radonezh and his disciple Roman from the Trinity monastery to Kirzhach. At the place where the spring is now located, the Monk Sergius prayed for a long time, turning to God with a request to free Russia from the Horde yoke. When his prayers were finally answered, a spring gushed out from under the ground.

Believers consider it a saint, and the water from it - possessing extraordinary healing power. Therefore, many pilgrims try to get to the bank of the Vondiga every day.

Especially a lot of people are near the Thundering Falls in winter, during the celebration of the Epiphany on January 19. Water is usually taken from a special area at the top of the waterfall, where a powerful wooden staircase leads. The Hot Key is decorated very beautifully - running streams of water flow along carved wooden gutters.

How to get to the Gremyachiy Klyuch waterfall

The waterfall is located half a kilometer from the south of the village of Vzglyadnevo, Sergiev Posad region, on the steep right bank of the Vondiga river.

Vzglyadnevo is a very small holiday village, and there is no asphalt road to it yet. By car. From Moscow (MKAD) you need to go along the M8 - Yaroslavl highway. After the village of Naugolnoye, before reaching the traffic police post, turn onto the A 108 highway, which is often called the "Moscow Big Ring".

You need to drive along it until the right turn onto the asphalt road leading to the village of Botovo. The turn is located shortly after the bridge over the Vondiga River.

From this turn to the springs - about 5 km. The first one and a half kilometers - on asphalt. Then, before the village of Botovo, you need to turn right onto the dirt road. This last section of the journey is easy for any vehicle in dry weather.

But during muddy roads (after rain or in the off-season), you can only drive here in an SUV. And if you are not sure, then it is better to walk this distance through copses and across the field on foot.

There are no direct routes to Gremyachi Springs. Therefore, part of the road will need to be traveled by bus. And then - walk the rest of the way. There are two possibilities. Both of them start from the bus station of the city of Sergiev Posad, located near the railway station.

By regular bus No. 37 going to Sharapovo, get to the village of Shiltsy. Then go about 5 km on its own through the village of Lyapino. By bus number 120, following to Zhuklino, arrive at the Malinniki stop. From here about 4 km of walking - through the village of Vzglyadnevo.
